Cars Going Wrong

Was thinking of a problem I once had reading the thread above.

I was once on a downhill stretch going back to work in my Pontiac, car had been running fine, last few bits of roads were straights, and a couple of small round abounds to navigate before the main rounabout in town.  Hadnt really needed to use the brakes but had my foot ready incase I was caught out with passing traffic on the 1st 2 roundabouts.

Jabbed to throttle to shoot down the last straight taking the car to about 60mph and as I got closer to town I dabbed the brakes and sod all happened.

I pressed the brakes hard, then tried them slowly, dropped it down a gear, started to pump the brakes (rapidly), started to pray, droped down to 1st gear (car did over 70mph in 1st so ok)  then I reckon I just closed my eyes waitng for the impact.

The hand brake was a foot operated thing, but  if used would have spun the car.  So just carried on pumping the brakes and suddenly the car started to slow and I avoided a lot of mess, including my pants.

Seals had gone in the master cylider, seal kit was £24 brand new master cylinder (not recon) was £34, sorted within 24 hours  but was one of my scariest times ever in a car.

What Poncho did you have? I have a Chevy Camaro and have redone all the brakes on it for that smae reason. 2 tonnes of metal don't stop quick at 70mph.

Had a 77 Parrisiene.

Had a 72 SS Camaro before that.

Pontiac was twice the performance of the SS, but the SS used to have a 402 Big block in it for trips at the pod.

Ponty was an ugly looking thing but would have it back like a flash.
