interesting the american traffic control keeps trying to send them to Newark, even after he pilot said they were going in the river.

If that had happened in the UK....  :(

actually reminds me of flying United, in business you can tune into the air traffic control radio.

Best one i remember was:

Air Traffic Control - 'Your clear 902'
Pilot - 'Roger, control can you confirm what the speed limit is?'
Air Traffic Control - 'no speed limit in operation today'
Pilot - 'Excellent'

At that exact moment, he opened the engines up to full tap  ;D

Air traffic are "duty bound" to try an assist the crew in landing at an airfield ....  it was probably outside their realm of operation to even contemplate the crew deciding to land on the Hudson.

Given the fact that the captain ceases to respond to ATC but only converses with the FO (first officer) as they continually try to relight engines probably means he turned the volume right down.

The comment about UK is probably a bit OTT ... as there is simply no river the size of the Hudson near a major british airport.

Similar things HAVE happened in UK airspace,

All down to the skill and training of the pilots... in both incidents

A very impressive bit of flying too. Lots of nerves kept very well under control there.

Had to admire the pilot when he said to his co-pilot, about 30 seconds from impact, 'Any ideas?'. 'Actually not', he replied. They both seemed so cool under astonishing pressure. As far as they knew, they were pretty much about to die or drown...

I don't know if anyone has seen this but the plane is up for sale - less the engines because they fell off in the crash.
