I am sick to death of this rubbish! When are we going to get a REAL Government, that puts the Rights, Religions, and Best Interests of the INDIGENOUS population FIRST and FOREMOST?
Errrr... Native Americans had a lousy immigration policy & look what the British did to indiginous populations across the Empire.......neither in the best interests of the original inhabitants
And as for being sick to death, I'm none too keen on some of the extreme opinions voiced on this forum or the language used to express them
Excuse me, but there is no extreme content in my post.
I make no excuses for what happened in this Country's past history either. Compared with other 'Colonial Empires', the British Empire was relatively benign in its treatment of the peoples it governed. I only wish we had some of that type of 'government' now!
I am English by birth and temperament, and proud of my Country and it's achievements and apologise to no man for that. 8-)
il 2nd that there was a time when england took no shit off anyone

Yes indeed, and we had a Royal Navy so large that it could engage in war with two nations at once to enforce our rule.
But, domestically we had the masses who were unprotected by social benefits, pensions or health care, whose families starved when the men lost their jobs, who lived in overcrowded houses with little to no utilities, and with industrial disease and dirt all around them, working often in dangerous conditions. The same people bowed to the ruling classes, and often received little respect in return. Yes the British Empire "took no shit from anyone", but dished out loads to its own with two World Wars to reduce their numbers.
That is why come 1945 the masses voted for a Labour, socialist government to give them the care they deserved. But of course at a cost; to the size of the Royal Navy; to the existence of the Empire, and therefore to Britain's ability to "be tough with Johnny foreigner!
I am a Conservative, but like Churchill joining forces with the Liberals and Lloyd George in 1908 to push for social reforms by sacrificing the building of two Dreadnought battleships, I believe social changes have increased this countries true greatness for you and me, the working classes.
So put away the rosey tinted glasses of the Empire days, and recognise they were not good for the vast majority.
