I am so Flipping furious
« on: 01 April 2010, 10:05:13 »

Aggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Halifax building society.

I have an arranged £250 overdraft.  I often used to dip into as it never cost me more than .50p a month when I made a mistake.

Then the charges changed to the £1 charge malarky for being overdrawn and being honest I had no info sent to me so I rang them up to get an understanding.

After a chat I changed the service (on the basis of) to a Reward Current Account and understood as long as I paid a grand a month in they paid me £5 but charged me £1 a day if Iwent into my overdraft, I checked this and confirmed it 3 times asking if there were any other charges.

Today, new statemant.  £15 in charges as 31 Mar 2010      Last Month Arranged Ovd Fee       15.00

Straight on the phone.  Seems this was for february, and they charged me £5 or £10 (am so mad I cant remeber) just for using the the sodding O/D and then the £1 a day I agrred to.

How do they train these people, is it done on purpose to rip us off, or do they purposefully neglegt to send out info and then blame us for not reading what we didn't recieve, further more they then neglect to tell me the whole account structure.

<Rant over>

Yours sincerily
Mr P. I. S. S. S. E. D. Off

Hope you are refusing to pay it Skruntie? Complain like hell and they will usually back down if its first time its happened.

I have had several of these reversed (albeit with Abbey) so well worth complaining :y

Vote with feet, or at least threaten to. Plenty of banks to choose from. ;)

Thought about that, but thats why I left all the others over the years.

The other thing with HBS, I had a gold instant saver account that in it's hayday paid 6.25% interest.  With all the credit crunch the %rate has dropped to .1%  but yet they have accounts now paying arround 3% but you have to keep opening new accounts with them to benifit.  All this does is make them look like they have more account holders than they actually have.

Anyone wanting a good savings rate then consider www.barnsleynuildingsociey.co.uk I am currently getting 3%  Unless anyone knows where I can get a better rate.  :y

They can't do that without giving you 14 days notice. Not legal to do so. Tell them that unless they reverse it then they should expect a call from the ombudsman to find out why they are taking money illegally from your account :y

This is a serious problem.  Not only banks but utilities as well.  You can pretty soon run out of options if you vote with your feet.  It's a particular problem if you're young 'cos there's a lot of years ahead of you, all of which need these people to provide "services". :(

from what I've heard of Halifax and my personal experience of Bank of Scotland is they've both become terrible at dealing with customers since they joined to become HBOS  :(

It's probably covered in thier standard terms and conditions (that keep changing) that they have mentioned what will happen in advance and thats how they get round it.  In the past they they allways gave advanced warning of the exact ammount.

I'm pretty sure they still have to give advance notice of the exact amount they are going to take. My bank (Barclays) do.

From Halifax's own T&C's:

If you have an arranged or unarranged overdraft, your statements will show the amount of fees we will take from your account at the end of the month.  If you have to pay fees for any unarranged overdraft, we will also send you a letter about these.

Then they are breaking their own rules and those of the FSA I believe.

Seriously worth complaining to get it reversed.  :y

I resemble that remark....
(the banker not the crook bit :D )
Anyway They are breaking FSA guidelines, call them and advise them you wish to lodge an official complaint as well as the call listened to as you weren't advised of these charges and that it would change otherwise you will go to the FSA. :y
