Hi,

Everywhere seems to have the same problem. When they try to change it to manual they get the 3 litre engine up, which my car doesn't have. They can't change the database at all apparantly, but they don't seem to know whats needed to get it changed. All systems register mine it as an MV6 auto when I type it in, so does that mean its been entered on as an auto or that the database just defaults to what it thinks it should be? I've had some seriously modded vehicles in the past 8 years and never had a problem like this

Just reading Simon's latest ad. Got me thinking about this. Did you get it sorted?

Hi,

Finally got insurance through Admiral as they offer a 'build' feature online, means you can put your exact spec of car on if the reg doesn't come up with the right details. All other major companies I tried were not that interested, Aviva never got back to me. DVLA are powerless as its the insurance companies problem and they won't change it unless they get more complaints, waste of time.

Guessing an independant insurance broker might be the best bet but I really couldn't be bothered arguing with people who think a computer has all the answers anymore, so just went with Admiral

Cheers,

Hi,

I got fully comp for £736 with 3 years no claims, so about right for my age and area I would think. Aviva quoted £530 fully comp but that was with wrong info, so if you can get someone to insure it you shouldn't be any worse off than a 3.2 auto :y

I'd missed this thread at inception, sorry Iain.
I've had x3 3.2 ex police Specials now.
I have trade insurance and if I need to add a vehicle to the MID I phone tradex and give the reg and tell them what it is.
I say OY02 VTL Vauxhall Omega 3.2 manual special, they go ok that's fine and add it to the MID.
Obviously my trade insurance works differently.
But your vehicle was in service with Bedfordshire police.
I sold DG02 RHE which was a 3.2 auto ex police special. The customer had a problem insuring it so I phoned his insurance company and told them I was a trader and the history of the vehicle.
Asked them if they were refusing to insure the vehicle, gave them the number for The Metropolitan Police Service department to do with vehicles. Told them to phone to confirm what the vehicle was. Said I was dissapointed, they changed quickly and insured the vehicle for him, saved him £65 compared to the Elite model.
It's easy to add vehicle details to the MID, it's just insurance companise don't want to bother.

Hi Josh,

Had lengthy conversations with RAC and Aviva which both ended with them refusing to add it to the MID as they required more than one complaint and couldn't find any other details of my car as the reg came up as an MV6 Auto so as far as they were concerned that's what it was. Both offered to either put it down as an inport or as modified for the gearbox, both of which I told them to politely p*** off. They clearly have enough custom to turn mine away. Will not use either again

Cheers,
Iain
