HELP! - Now sorted :D :D
« on: 20 April 2007, 12:08:34 »

Got everything set for the weekend to do my Cams and at the last second the tool company I bought the 30mm ring spanner and the E20 torx bit have let me down, wont be here till Monday!! Argh! (wan**rs by the way, diytools.co.uk)

Has anyone got these bits I could borrow over the weekend at all?  This has thrown a serious spanner (excuse the pun) in the works..  >:(

Mark, thanks but you're right - little bit of a journey up to you!

Nixoro, I'll pop down there on the way home, seriously doubt they'll have a spanner tho :( Maybe they do, fingers crossed.

I think I have an E20 but its not the 1/2 inch drive..

Chris, I may be able to help.

I need to get this spanner myself (I'll get the kit at a later date).

Now I am going down to Toddington Services (J2 M1) tomorrow morning (I'll be there at 8.30am).
I could bring down these tools for you if that would help?

Cheers LB - I've just been to Halfords - I'm not sure I need to worry quite as much as I just did! (I Hope)

I've got a 30mm socket in my ratchet set, its huge - would this work instead of a ring spanner?  I also have the E20 but in 3/8 form rather than 1/2..  As far as I can see I should be ok, but I'm sure you guys can confirm...

Chris, we recommend an offset ring spanner for a reason mate.... ;)

You need access to the centre whilst holding the outer part still.
With a whacking great socket over it, this will prove to be a bit of a challenge!  ;)

Oh and 3/8 E20 will be fine. Just the 1/2" drive gives you more leverage when turning the crank.

Damn it!  I knew it would be all too easy  :-/

I'm just waiting on my house mate to get back to me, then I'll let you know if I'll be seeing you at toddington!

Cheers for the advice :)

Woohoo Sorted!

Just phoned my local mechanic whose just started up on his own, he's got exactly what I need - he said he's ground a bit out of it so that it fits even better over the pulleys :D

Thanks for all the offers guys, much appreciated - the forum would have struck again there, and at least it should be tomorrow when Kevin and I get cracking on this swap over.. I cannot wait to drive it when done!

Cheers,

Chris.
