Do a printout of the spec sheet you showed and high lighlight all the main specs, then what ever they over you make sure the spec is at least the same or better, Yours is a HP so expect no less.

They can provide you a higher spec machine for less than you paid as prices do come down, but I believe they cant supply you a lesser spec, and alo make sure they dont try to fob you off with a refurb lappy.

Did you specifically order yours with 2 x 80gb hard drives, if that is a requirement then remind them before they make an offer that the replacement must have 2 hard drives..

At first glance, even this one is better specc'd than your previous one, and half the price:

http://www.comet.co.uk/sh"My Naff Code Reader"et/product/613193/HP-G62-105/tab/specification#spec

Although it has a smaller screen and no dedicated GFX card, it has a better processor, more RAM, more HD space and Windows 7 and prob a few other minor details.

If your not bothered about the screen size and don't do anything as exciting as playing games, you can't go wrong. Like I say though that really was the first site, and the first one I stumbled upon. If you get £500+ from your insurance you'll be laughing. PC tech moves so quick your £1000 one isn't even entry level by todays standard. That shouldn't stop you for squeezing as much as you can from them though ;)

Checkout motorboard specs, as all these crappy high street companies grab you with headline lines of mega ram and such, but its often connected to a shite motherboard.

If i had a grand to spend:

If you want Windows just bootcamp it, my Intel Mac Mini was best machine i ever bought to run Windows!
