Upkeep of Omega's
« on: 19 July 2010, 22:18:02 »

Hi,

Reading through the threads on here past couple of days there has been a general posting of Omega's potential demise due to various issues and mine is no different, it needs: new wishbones, new springs/shocks, rust sorting and now a dent thanks to an a***hole in ASDA car park who skelped my passenger door and didn't have the decency to let me know, and 2 new tyres for the rear as I almost died today because they are that cheap and made of crap the back end decided to overtake the front when I was doing 50 on a curve on the motorway :o. I have had serious thoughts of putting it off the road this week and getting something else but its not viable due to the cost, it's cheaper for me to buy the parts and using the guides here, do the work on the Omega.

The car is now over 8 years old so by replacing the major suspensions parts and some other bits and pieces I can see it lasting another few years for minimum cost, I have had a look around and nothing matches it for power over cost or comfort, so think long and hard before getting rid, not many cars can compete for the money :y

Too right! People scoff at me when I tell them that my old Senny, and now Omega are the perfect compromise between speed, power, performance, luxury, space, economy, maintenance etc etc, all for little cost! I think they are better than many other over rated cars!

There is an anti auto lad at work - however he would not say no to a V6 Omega.

And he enjoyed a cross country drive from Essex to Worcestershire in my old 2.0 CD as it was so comfortable (we were at a customer)

Tried very hard NOT to buy my current omega. As said, there simply isn't anything else worth having for the money.

I fully expect to have to fork out more for a "cheaper" car when all the omegas have gone.

And if you have a few issues with your omega now is the time to learn to fix it, while you have the forum behind you. Later with another marque, odds are you won't get the support you will find on here. Have a look at the vag forum. A lot of tumble weed.

given the cost of parts and time needed to sort the front end on mine :'(, i've decided to buy a low milage vectra c to use for work. :-/ this will then give me time and space to get the beast sorted properly, rather than rush it and screw it up.was thinking that the car was beyond help 'til i found this forum. well impressed.  :y :y :y

Lets be honest...most cars are only as good as the way their owners treat them.  :y
Fingers crossed. I hope my 10 year old Omega lasts for a long while yet.
I also have a Renault Laguna Estate, which is 14 years old but looks and drives like new. Its a case of not thrashing the guts out of it, and a bit of TLC. OK, I had to put a new auto box in last month...total cost £300, but cheaper than buying another car. Basically, thats why I purchased the Omega as I thought the Laguna would not be repaired.  :(
Now have two nice Estates.  :y
Why did I specifically buy an Omega ???  Well, I have owned, Vauxhall Victor FB, FC, FD, FE, and a Senator and all were superb vehicles, as was my Brother - in - Laws Carlton.  ;)

1.Agreed.. I went to the holliday with the family.. Car was full.. And I hammered all the way to sea.. Really it flew like an airplane at illegal speeds..But the passengers on the backseat dont feel anything and sleep  ;D ;D And cant really see a replacement at the same comfort and power in similiar prices.. :'( :-/
so will keep it longer ..

2.At least I learn-know some of it theoritically ;D :-[

3. Yep.. most other forums are simply "les miserables" ;D ;D and like STMOs tumbleweed ;D

I think I must have been very lucky with mine.  All things considered, not a lot has gone wrong with it.  Suspension seems fine - worst that's happened is a busted spring.  Shocks OK, but I have to admit it's bouncier than it used to be.  Not a lot of rust, and what there is would be easily treatable if I had any money.  Driver seat heater doesn't work, passenger seat is jammed in place, CD changer cassette jammed in the machine, but works OK (just bored with same 5 disks).  Occasionally flattens the battery for no obvious reason.

So for an 11 year old car it's not too bad.

Except the coil pack seems to have failed and we're off on holiday on Friday.  Or not, as the case may be.  Is it feasible to hitch-hike to Cornwall?

Mine is an S reg with, naturally, more than 100k on the clock. Aside from where some kind person swiped me in a carpark causing a nice dent on the rear o/s corner (too deep to pop out) the only thing really wrong with it is the common problem of rust bubbling under a couple of door windows. I got her for about a grand and could sell for , what, £500. But, as said, what else could you get in terms of power/comfort/room for that money? As has been discussed on here before, it all comes down to deciding at which point you see any repair costs as being at the "throwing good money after bad"stage and this is where the help and expertise on here come in!Personally, I hope to keep her for several years to come :y

Somewhere down between Truro and Penzance - near Camborne, I think.  Really must investigate it before we go - cannot rely on navigator to get me to the bottom of our road. :)

Bit like the main Rover one - only replies are to posts about body kits, blue LEDs, or stereos....
