Spring forward, fall back, or not?
« on: 12 August 2010, 22:52:19 »

Some debate on this it seems, http://www.express.co.uk/blogs/post/266/blog/2007/10/27/23378/The-clocks-should-fall-forward-not-back

personally I despise the evenings drawing in with a passion.

Why do we do it? I haven't thought it through with all the consequences but at a glance it seems like madness?  >:(

if we stayed on BST it would mean that here in Perth it would remain dark until about 10am in late December :o

What about England and Wales moving on to BST all year round and Scotland stays as it is? Shouldn't be too much trouble as most businesses deal with other time zones all the time?  :y

Personally, not fussed when it gets light in the morning, it's the evenings that are important IMO. On some days during normal office hours I never saw daylight at all. It's just not right.

Scotland and northern areas should suit themselves too maybe?

Even my school days, Finnish school at 3, dark by 4. Rubbish.

you jet setter!!

A better question might be to standardise European time zones. It really gets my goat that Spain is an "hour in front" . It must cost businesses a packet.

The old excuse trotted out for changing the clocks was for "farmers" . I don't think that holds water anymore as practices and equipment have changed so much.

Much as I would love to "cut Scotland loose" and let it drift away for its treachery and temerity in wanting independence, I am afraid they are (in my mind) part of the UK and should stick with it. If that means keeping the same time so be it.

U.S.A. has 5 time zones .Russia has 11! surely we could cope with 2 time zones?

yes because the USA is a big country east to west. Time zones were invented to make travel easier due to the rotation of the earth on its axis (roughly pole to pole) . Britain only needs the same time zone as any other country going south (or north)

Err no you wouldn't lose an hour in bed, well not every day only the once around the changeover. easily sorted go to bed an hour earlier. :y :y

i feel a bit sorry for folk living in northerly climes but you do have the advantage of longer days than we get nearer the equator at certain times of the year. It balances out.

yep, around the shortest days in December, sunrise here isnt until nearly 9am as it stands, so nearly 10am if the clocks didnt go back, sunset is 7hrs later, so normally before 4pm........its grim oop north  :y
