Can I take this opportunity to thank all those that helped point me in the right direction - away from the head gasket - with sorting out the problem I had with my local garage!
I took the bull by the horns and replaced my HBV!!!!
I lost a lot of skin from my knuckles, and the swear box was emptied twice but I did it!!!
Infact, I became so brave, that I then changed my front discs and pads, and the rear springs and all thanks to the concise instructions on this forum.
So, once again, many thanks to all those that passed on their good wishes, and as i said before, If you are passing this way, you'd be made most welcome.

I thank you all for your replies but I think my euphoria was a little bit premature!

On my way to work this morning at dawn oclock, i experienced an awful wobbling at about 45-50 mph, it was just like a VERY bad wheel wobble, like an unbalanced wheel. I've looked to see if anything is loose or out of place but all looks normal. Any ideas?

this is what I did at the weekend
HBV replaced - no relevance here
Rear springs replaced
Front discs and pads

Could it just be the wheels need balancing, I don't think they did before all this work but its difficult to tell in London as it is rare to reach that kind of speed!!!

It did clear after going past 50mph

HELP!

That does sound like wheel balancing. You may have knocked-off on of them lead bits while removing the wheels to do the pads...?

Is it any worse or better under braking? Could be a disc not seated flat on the hub or something.

Also worth checking the wheel nuts are all tight, although I'm sure this was your first port of call!

If its only apparent between 45 and 50, it definately sounds like wheels out of balance. You need to get all four done.

Now, I'm not questioning your mechanical skills, but please make sure you tightened all of the wheel nuts properly after working on them.

Thanks guys - I'm no mechanic as stated before so have checked me nuts ooer missus and they are all torqued up correctly.
will check for tell tale sign of a nocked off weight.
It does seem to be worse under braking but only as it goes through that speed range - probably dont help having 18" rims and 40 profile tyres!!!
