Best gegreaser?
« on: 04 September 2010, 11:38:04 »

I've been "actioned" to clean the inside of the glass door of our electric oven.

The rest of the oven is fairly clean but the inside of the glass door is covered in a thin, brown greasy film.

I've tried Cilit Bang Power Degreaser - but after 3 applications its made very little difference.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to which is the best way to clean this?

Thanks - Rob

Astonish. Little tub of white cream stuff from Wilkinsons etc. Really good for oven doors.

1st. option:
Cheap and commonly available: Ammonia*, used neat/undiluted (or in as strong as possible a solution)......sometimes sold as "household ammonia" but often that`s already been 'cut' with water.

*BE CAREFUL, THE FUMES WILL BE STRONG, PERVASIVE AND HIGHLY IRRITANT TO EYES & SKIN!

2nd. option:
Very inexpensive and commonly available: Washing Soda Crystals, mix a strong solution in very-hot water and (wearing gloves) the grease will quickly soften and come away when rubbed.

Agree with all of the above.

Also if, like mine, it's a separate inner door consisting of just a sheet of glass:  lift it off its hinges, stick it in the dish washer gunge side downwards and have a beer.  (Assuming you've taken the car parts out first!)

Caustic soda is the best thing I have used for cleaning ovens, just make sure you use rubber gloves and googles as it is vicious stuff :y

Have seen one or 2 people over the years end up in hospital using that stuff.

Be very very carefull if you use it.
