Abuse of EU funds
« on: 28 September 2010, 16:44:18 »

I just read this:

An investigation carried out by the European Commission's anti-fraud office and the EU's Court of Auditors, which was concluded last year, found widespread abuse of EU funds by Cepol.

Naughty Cepol! >:

But who, or rather what, is Cepol?

Have a guess!

Scroll down a bit...

Cepol is the European Police College, based in the UK.

MEP's shouldn't be allowed to sit in judgement over anyone's budget.

Fair comment. When was the last time the EU's budget was passed by the auditors? Ah, yes, 15 years ago.

Do I recall reading that the EU finances where approved about 18 months ago. But the head accountant then immediatky resigned.
Something tells me pressure was put on the firm to sign it off. Guess the accountant was at least honest.

I stand corrected. But, in any event, the EU's accounts have been suspect for a very long time. Remember Marta Andreasson?

Andreasen was fully suspended from her job by the Commission in May 2002 (for "violating Articles 12 and 21 of staff regulations, failure to show sufficient loyalty and respect"), underwent a disciplinary procedure and in the end was fired in 2005. She said to have been suspended from her job and ultimately fired because she refused to sign accounts she believed were unreliable – in 2002 alone, her office found 10,000 possible cases of fraud in EU accounts. The Civil Service Tribunal of the EU confirmed the sacking of Marta Andreasen in its decision of 8 November 2007.

Not trying to correct you Nickbat, I for one appreciate the posts you make.  :y
Although the accounts where signed off, I have grave reservations about how and why they where signed off.
