Omega track car 5th may!! what a day!!!!!!!
« on: 06 May 2007, 13:39:18 »

hi guys as some of you are prob aware 5th may was the 1st track day in the new omega..............

And what a day :y.

after preparing the car as best we could i turned up with the full interia still in inc head rests!!! :-[ quite funny to see....
most sat there and said "an omega WHY?" most who said that were lotus elise guys and kit car people. as you could prob guess :P

after all checks made and unloaded and warmed up it was time for the 1st 3 sighting laps to see what was what.....

this is the 1st time i had set foot in the car on the track with new set up, suspension / wheels / mods etc etc. at 40mph i was thinking seems to be firm this suspension then when down the back straight managed to pull 110mph which isn't bad .... car seemd to sit well and drive well so thought should be a good day!!!!!!!

when we started i found myself shooting round corners like SH*T to a blanket i couldn't belive how well it handled ...... NO BULL but i was pushing TVR's as in chimera's 4.0 and 4.5 V8's with the nose of the omega around the twisty bits, on straights different matter the omega needed 100bhp more to really contend.

i even made a 911 NEW porsche have to work to pass me!!!!

after 6 laps came in and everyone couldn't belive how good the omega was!!!!!!!!!!!

basically - it passed Golf gti's like they were nothing, passed 205 gti's, 206gti 180, scooby's ... Mr2 turbo with just over 300bhp (which apparently wasn't running right" ha ha ha, alfa v6's the lot...... even past a BMW M3 evo and
even passed a caterham with a 150bhp zetec in!!!!!!!!!!.............

bloody good day!!!!!!!! Car ran spot on never went above 90deg water, didn't use a drop of water or oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME.

my mate managed to pop a front tyre clean off  the rim!!!!!!!!!!!!! and luckily due to width of wheels kept tyre on rim and wheel ran on bead of tyre so not much damage!!!.... :'( so after we legged it to local tyre fitter to re-fit and grind lumps and chucks off wheel we were back again.!!!!!!

I have learn't several things about the car mond you and thought you might like to see what.

1- just because a £80k porsche goes round a corner at 90mph doesn't mean the OMEGA can!!!!! ha ha

2- These Hot hatch things civic type R's GTI's are no good compared to a 4 door saloon Omega ha ha

3- Dont let your mates drive as they only damage your car by popping tyres off!!! :'(

4- If you fit a 3.8bar fuel reg you use £52 of optimax in 72 mileS!!!!!!!!!!! :o

5- if you de-cat, 3.8bar reg, and get it hot it fires flames out the exhaust between gear changes (AWESOME)

6- And finally if you pass M3 Bmw's and MR2 turbos and basically things that are "meant" to be the Fast cars .... they come over afterwards and explain how there car isn't running right and is down on power then want's to know how many thousands of horse power the omega is ..... and when you reply 206bhp with 199lbft they go red storm off and dont talk to you again rest of the day!!!!!! ha aha ha

soon as i get the pics il be sure to post them!!!!!!

cheers

Can't wait to see the pics  :)

Are you planning to strip the interior out for future events?

P.s. I promise not to pop a tyre off if you let me have go!  ;)

sounds like a cracking day  :y
...furthest i got today on "project track day" was removing the roof lining, fitting an induction kit from a rover 600 turbo and chopping a "rover 214 sei" badge up and glueing it to the back to read " 4.2 RS"  :o

Sounds like you had a lot of fun.  I've done a few trackdays in my weekend car <cough> MR2 turbo <cough> and its an awesome feeling being 'let loose' and not having any speed limits to worry about.  Just watch out for the 'one last lap...' syndrome - I span out at Bedford Autodrome at almost 90mph - lukily there was nothing to hit there so you can take liberties and get away with it :-)

Not to start any kind of war etc, and I do really like both cars that I have the biggest enemy of the Omega is its weight - pretty much 400kg extra over the MR2 really tells, and is really noticable in how agile the car feels.  Clearly your car is much better set up than most and I guess you can pedal a bit so thats how you went so well, but if you drove any other well set up car with that much weight loss you would definately be going faster!

Looking forward to the pics!
