Hope for some suggestions from you caravan lovers on here, need to get shut of my parent's old 'van, been sat in their drive a few years so can't believe it is worth anyone's while to do up, are they worth anything as scrap?

It's based in New Mills (Stockport) in the unlikely event this is of any bearing.

Looking for the most hassle free expedient as my Dad is fairly ill at the moment, if a scrap yard is likely to take it I'll arrange this and go over and tow it to the nearest one...

So sorry to read of your Dad`s health problems.

I`d scrap the aluminium body-panel sheeting and weigh it in for cash (prices are good at the moment) and advertise/sell the chassis and undercarriage for a trailer conversion (they make excellent trailers).

As for the timber, foam and plastic; it`s nearly Bonfire night...the local yoofs will surely be gagging to pile that up!

Maybe worth a free ad on a website such as www.ukcampsite.co.uk?

Not sure on the condition or type of your parent's caravan, but they tend to go for roundabout £400 - £500 even if riddled with damp.

They can be a great source of parts for campervan conversions - so if the interior is in good nick, and the appliances (fridge, cooker, heater etc) are in good working order - say so in the ad, as it'd be worth £400 - £500 for those parts alone even if in poor condition.

Plus there are members of that site who restore older caravans.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions...I'll try and get to see it properly soon and see if there's anything worth saving and then get cracking, if it is at all worth saving I will post here first..

I've scrapped a couple - 10-30 quid a piece for appliances in local freeads.
60 quid for the aluminium shell.

40 quid for the windows (allotment shed + one in a transit!)
100 for the chassis (15ft, plated at 1000kgs)
bonfire for the rest

if you strip it yourself - watch out fo rthe insulation between the aluminium outer and plywood inner.
It's either polystyrene which make a real mess,
or fibre glass (like loft insulation), which is as itchy as h*ll and very dusty - you may want to consider a facemask.
