Vauxhall Dealership
« on: 13 November 2010, 09:24:33 »

The wife is interested in a new car and we were looking around the local Vauxhall stealers.  We were there for around 45 mins looking at several cars, sitting in them, opening boots, reading litterature, opening bonnets (me) visably doing calculations on the various finance deals.......

......not one of the 8 sales staff came up and even said hello, let alone 'Can I help you' :o

Not that I would have wanted any but surely these guys want to make a living?  :-?

You've got a point but I prefer them to leave me alone until I'm ready  ::)

Despite the backlash I will get for saying this, try a BMW dealer. I went to one for the bike to be serviced, went up to bike service desk, said I had my bike booked in, She looked up and said Mr Tunnie? Ah yes here we go. I'll just take the keys, please help yourself to complementary snacks and drinks, here is WiFi password if you want to browse internet.

Bike Sales guy came up, introduced himself, asked where my bike was and that it would be collected shortly, listed what was going to be done, and how long it would take, offered me a demo bike while mine was being fixed.

It was in a terrible state when I took it, came back looking like new. (was just an annual service)

I've been very impressed with BMW so far  :y

There's nothing wrong with acknowledging the customer and telling them that if they need any help to give you a shout ::)

Two weeks ago I was over in Scotland and took my Bro in law to Peter Vardis Vaux main dealer in Motherwell to see about exchanging his 01 Focus .A salesman took us throught the possible deal with a 07 Fiesta and offered £500 for his 41 K miles one owner Focus.  After a bit of haggling we got him to offer £700 . We were about to leave and the Sales manager came and knocked on the car window and asked us back in giving us the most outrageous sales speel yet. We played along and then when we got to the crunch I said , with my BIL's agreement "£800 for the Focus and it's a deal " He shook his head and said NO . I said would he lose a sale for £100 on a £6000 car and he said 'fraid so ......... :o
We went to Arnold Clark just down the road and got £1000 on a '071/2  Fiesta @ the same price with no haggling .
Whilst at Vardi's they had '09 Insignia SRI's from £9999, I had a hired SRI estate and the Manager was desperate to a point of being rude to know where I got it and for how much.
The two garages were poles apart in service to the customer.
Incidently the first salesperson called my BIL two days after the visit to ask if he had given their offer some thought , you know what we said ......

We where sofa shopping, and got pestered so much we left, but not before telling the store manager why, 7 sales staff butting in, could not even be polite and just barged into our conversation. Really had to bite my lip  >:(  :-X

Usually I give them one approach, that's it or I leave.

Next time, if they invade, I'll interrupt them instead..."can I just stop you there" ...and walk off.   :)

Sounds like the BMW guys have it right.

I'd expect an acknowledgement and an offer of help when required then be allowed to take my time and not be bothered again.....

The Car People are pretty good. If you want to browse without them pestering you, they wiil let you. Always someone 'hovering' as soon as you need them.

being an ex car salesman myself there were many guys i have worked with who were very customer shy and didnt bother speaking to people. were in the wrong job in my opinion. I always allowed people to browse as much as they like but a friendly welcome and an offer of a drink is the least they should be doing.
