This is what annoys me, I could be on the 'sick' and not have to pay council tax and a whole range of other things..... I choose to work in a high profile and agressive environment and in real terms earn less than if I had gone on benefits....... >:( >:( >:(

Sorry to say it Mr Tamland (may I call you "Brick"?), but Ireland looks well and truly stuffed from where I'm sitting. Should have kept the punt and told the EU where to shove it....on both occasions. ;)

just because we don't have the Euro, we're far from safe - the Euro gets devalued and we'll tank too as Europe is our main market surely?  :o

But yeah, you're right Nick, no matter what happens here in the future, Ireland is definitely screwed  :(

Those figures are shocking  :o No wonder these people do not want to work, and frankly can you blame them. Many governments have created this mess.

Looks pretty stuffed from here aswell  :-/ 4 of my mates had no choice but to go on the dole straight after collage, only they dont get €200+housing and other benifits they get about 75 per week :( and we're hardly known for value for money  >:(

Now they want to reintroduce college fees, so they have a choice, either pay each students fees which add up to about 100 per week or pay the dole for each student which adds up about 100 per week  :-?

At least i work  8-)

Yes Nick they have certainly done themselves no favour by joining "the club".  A good example of why the UK should never adopt the Euro.

I think Mandleson and Blair wanted the UK to enter into the Euro but Gordon said No - made the correct decision for once in his life.

Brown wanted us to join, when the time was right, it was just never right in his judgement, during his time in office. ;)
The Dublin Govt. want to try to sort their own economy out, but they have come under increasing pressure from Germany and others to take another handout from the EU, in order to help prop up the Euro. They have apparently caved in to the pressure today. ::)

Yes, it's sad news indeed P.

In relation to 'Europe' it's news that brings home quite clearly to those across there who fought hard to have the Treaty ratified (second time around) that in the EU, there's no such thing as a free lunch and that 'big boys rules' will always apply.
