Sparked by thread, 'need to get this off my chest'
« on: 25 November 2010, 00:21:25 »

I have my opinions on todays 'boy racers', especially in relation to how we were as 'boy racers', but, I want to rant about driving in general 'these days', and the things that really 'wind me up'.

75% of drivers these days seem so darned aggressive in their driving, to my mind mirroring how society is becoming.

The drivers with the 'you WILL get out of my way' attitude.
The modern game of 'guess which way I'm going' at roundabouts. Too much trouble to reach for the indicator stalk.
The now accepted competition in queues of, 'let's see how close we can get to the car in front'. Not enough brain to work out, 'hmm, but I gotta wait till he has pulled away before I can move, or why do I want to sit here with my heater on and the bloke in fronts exhaust gasses coming into my car'.
The people, sadly 75% of whom are women who, protect their offspring with the obligatory child seat, but ALWAYS seem to park facing oncoming traffic, while they take 2 minutes to get said offspring out of harness, door obviously wide open. Do not dare to toot your horn, you are inviting the normal (for today) gutter talk that would make a squaddy blush. If these people are so caring of their kids, why don't they park with the necessary door, 'pavement side' ??
The people, in my experience mainly Asian (not racist, just my observation) who, on a 3 lane motorway sit in the 2nd lane all the way from London to Birmingham, or on a 4 lane section sit tight in either the 2nd or 3rd lane.
The impatient and 'oh so British' people who will do anything to avoid queuing, especially at petrol stations. The pump in front of me has just been vacated, and by performing a slalom technique Mr. Impatient manages to get to it. I now go to pay, cannot reverse due to queue behind, and sit and wait while Mr. Impatient puts 50 quids worth into the slowest filler in the world, then does his daily shopping.
The young fellas with their zillion watt systems driving around with their windows open. I do NOT want to hear about someone knifing some 'motherfu**er'.. blud. If it's what you like fine, but why MUST I listen to it. Time to close my windows and turn up the AC/DC.
There are so many more, makes me think, if my car wasn't so badly needed for everyday things, I could save myself a lot of stress. But I'm sure other things I hate about peoples driving will be covered.. :o :-[

Under-steer is when the front of the car hits the wall, and over-steer is when the rear of the car hits the wall.
Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

I find either laughing or gently tapping my temple always helps with aggressive drivers, after first making sure there is enough room to make a hasty retreat if needs be!

I always try not to reinforce any stereo types but if I see an old Indian lady driving towards me I've learnt it's best just to pull over at the side of the road and put my seat belt on.

Funny you should say that. I've been conducting a little experiment on my commute this week. I have in my CCR2006 a compilation of baroque music in slot 1, and "Back In Black" in slot 2. ;D

All about AC/DC!

What a good post! About mothers and their kids, they always seem to have a 'Baby on Board' sticker in the back or something along those lines, as if they are urging us to drive with more care or something to protect their young! Yet they are generally the worst/most dangerous/most aggressive/ drivers or the least observant and fastest drivers!

With you there totally. If you sound your horn as a warning, not as a sign of displeasure, all you get is abuse and threats of violence!

As for cars being advertised as 'Lady owner'! What does that mean? Are they trying to convey or suggest it might be in better condition than if it had been owned by a man? So that we might be more inclined to buy it? I don't think so!

I put my hand up and admit to this, but, only when I am driving on a dual carraigeway, they are doing 20mph below the speed limit in the overtaking lane with a clear road ahead of them...

I have noticed in recent months that there seems to be a shift as to what type of car the A'hole's tend to drive...   They seem to have move towards the Passat...  You see someone hurtling up your tail, perform some ludicrous overtake and speed away...  Anyone else noticing this...

That means the clutch is burnt out, the gear teeth are all chipped and the door mirrors are adjusted to check makeup rather than whats happening behind. :y :D ;D ;D

And the engine oil has turned back to crude oil, the coolant is rust coloured, the tyres are bald, alloys scuffed and a brake light (or two) out!!

Generally dark blue or silver by any chance? :-/

There does seem to be several, (or maybe the same cars), flying around the south east with flashing headlights and the occasional excuse for a siren. :-/

Sussex Police seem to enjoy 'pushing' people over the threshold in order to tug them. Mate of mine got 3 points trying not to get rammed by an unmarked A4. >:(

Too many cars and not enough roads, the rest is all fairly inevitable I guess.

Working shifts I notice an increasing number of older drivers. Hesitant, slow, confused, chatting away and completely missing important stuff. Don't see them in rush hour obviously so they all come out mid day.

Drive THAT slow on congested roads others WILL get impatient, they just will.

Or

Drive impatiently aggressively, others will get in the way,  they just will.

Biggest population on the smallest land mass in Europe I'm betting...? There's just no room.

those "baby on board" stickers are detachable warning signs - the clue is in the fact theres a sucker attached, on behalf of the emergency services, please only display sign if there actually is a baby on board - valuable minutes could be spent on others in the event of a nasty RTA rather than looking for a baby that doesn't exist. I'd fine them for incorrect use.  ;)

People who leave foglights on when it's not foggy - idiots.

Also, here's a tip, if loads of people are flashing you  at night and you don't know why, ADJUST THE LEVEL OF YOUR LIGHTS!!!! yes you can flash me back as if to prove you don't have full beam on......I know you don't have full beam on, just please work it out on your own.....maybe after the tenth or so time you're flashed? Thanks.  :y

They seem to have move towards the Passat...

Not surprising. It's the least interesting car in the world to drive at any speed, and the mainstay of the frustrated sales exec who didn't quite meet his target so was a few quid short of the allowance required to get a "proper" tosser's car (BMW/Audi). ;D

I really wish we could move to petrol stations like they have in France where there's a row of pumps and a portacabin. Fill up, pay the bloke, break off.

Why do we have to have an M&S attached to every one? For the lazy tinkers who can't be bothered to drive to the supermarket to buy their TV dinners. >:(

I think it might be turning into an AC/DC day today. [smiley=evil.gif]
