Travel advice Leicester to Dover
« on: 02 December 2010, 13:24:52 »

Not very good timing at all for flying back to England tomorrow(Malaga -Birmingham) and then driving back on Sunday a.m. with my Project Omega. ;D ;D

Route unless any last minute alterations is Lecester M1 south, M25 (dartford crossing direction) then the A2 (passes Leeds Castle and Lizzie Zoom land)

What are the motorways like and more importantly likely to be like on Sunday please? I have watched UK TV but it all seems to focus on the bad stuff (country roads, jacknifed lorry tailbacks and so on and today  understandably).

Lastly is one of the motorways to Dover closed to "stack" stuck lorries.?

M20 is shut for stacking. Main roads are very bad and, TBH, if you can put it off I would advise it. It may have improved by Sunday as there is some let up and rain forecast but they've not managed to get the forecast right around here!

This morning I tried to get SWMBO to work. Took us just under 2 hours to do the 7 miles to the Park and Ride where they said the first bus of the day had left at 07:10 and hadn't been seen/heard from since... It was 09:30! They're supposed to run every 10 minutes!

M25 was a nightmare, A12 and A14 (the main trunk roads into the area) are both down to 1 lane, if open, and moving extremely slowly.

I've actually found the untreated/quiet roads better for getting about :o Probably because I can keep moving and don't have to worry about the other idiots on the road!

Currently coming down thick and fast, but at least it's now larger flakes as we've had about 3" of very fine powdery stuff which is just being thrown about by the wind and drifting.

It is still snowing well down here and the last I heard (further to the good info given by LD) junctions 8, 9, 10 of the M20 have been closed by the police due to operation stack and the unsafe conditions on the motorway for drivers.

Haven't been out today as I didn't need to, but we have had almost continuous steady snow since yesterday evening.  Therefore road conditions have worsened around here, and certainly have not improved.

If you do not have to travel on our Kentish roads, I would not ;) ;)  However Varche what it will be like on Sunday, who knows! :P :P
