A little seat issue
« on: 19 May 2007, 19:52:43 »

Well, got the Omega out of the garage today to wash down the filler and primer dust that had got stuck to it for the last week or so, seems much better now its all washed down.

I have a small issue with my drivers seat.  It'll only move forward so far from the right back position where it seems to get stuck and won't come any further forward.  Thought there might be something caught in the track and was going to take the seat out today but I've hit on a little problem.  Its sat far enough back to sit over the rear floor bolts and won't go far enough forward to allow access.  I've raised it righ the way uup and slid it forward so I could try and see what (if anything) is caught in the track.  Couldn't see anything, the seat comes forward and then the motor seems to get so far and then twist slightly, which is concurrent with my theory of something being stuck in the way.

Has anyone taken one of the electric seats apart from the base downwards? (is it even possible?).  Anyone got any ideas?

It won't bother me cos I'm a lanky git anyway but it'll need to be able to come forward for SWMBO to drive it.

Can you hear the motor trying to rotate?

What you need is the emergency winding handle!

Its a long thin metal key, bit like an allen key but very long with a square tip, if you stick your head in the drivers footwell, look at the seat. On the right hand side (closest gear stick) there is a motor with a square hole in the front, stick the key in there and wind for victory. Takes about 5 mins to get to all the way forward, as you rotate it won't seam to be doing anything, but it does move, very slowly!

Key should be in the spare wheel kit in the boot....

you'll take it all apart to find a pound coin jammed in the track!

i've yet to fish 15p out of mine, thankfully i'm not posh enough to have electric movement so it wont cause much damage!

its probably not even that thats causing it so i'll be quiet now

The motor stops, so whatever is holding it back is substantial enough to stop the movement in its tracks, and when you nurture the switch forward again, you can hear the relays switching but whatever is jammed in there is jammed in good.  I've even tried bunny hopping on the seat to will it forwards with the switch.  The wife came out today and accused me of trying to hump the steering wheel given the cursing that was going on ;D

Thanks for the advice on the winding keyTunnie, I'll have a butchers at that tomorrow.

Honestly...where would I be without you guys!  :y
