it could all turn around! I actually work in a very small team (only 5 people) some of our key systems where taken away from us and given to other support departments, was a time when things looked iffy. Several weeks of sod all to do!

But now we have been given two huge projects, team is already starting to grow. If project 2 is the size that its projected to be, could be interesting times ahead!

FWIW:
I've been self-employed for about 3 years now, and I would NEVER go back to employment.
My kids are grownup however, and my house is rented, so I don't really have anything to lose.

We do OK, actually, cos work pays for the insurance on the van and all the maintenance and fuel, and I NEVER use it for personal use.  ;)  so all that comes out of pre-tax profits, as does anything else I can get away with :.)

I think it all depends on a whole load of factors, how old, what your skills are, are they getting out of date, what the financial climate is like etc.

I had been contracting for a while, 10+ years, but ran into a bad patch. 10 months of sending off CV's nothing back, watching the bank A/C get lower etc. Then I got this contract out near Liverpool. Rate was OK, and I worked very hard to keep it. They recently offered me a full time job, which I accepted, 'cause I recon things are going to stay rough or get worse for a while. Like in a storm, ships head for a port and anchor up till it blows over.

I am keeping my Ltd company going, just in case.  :y

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply with their experiences, ideas and other advice.  All worth of noting down, which I've done  ;) .

Going to be looking at some advice on here about making plans, working out money to live on etc, which all are a good starting point.

Looking into the ideas of working from home, as that appeals more, cuts down on worrying about getting to workplace/car or van breakdowns/extreme weather/property rental and all electric water, insurance, etc.

Cheers once again all  :y

Good luck. There is some sound advice there.

One thing to watch  working from home is that you and others respect that. It is all too easy to think I'll walk the dogs/do the washing/ bit of gardening/watch Breakfast TV/etc and before you know it it is time to go on Omega Owners Forum and before you know it it is time to pack up..............

Start your business idea now while you still have your job. :y
