Big cyclone to hit Queensland
« on: 01 February 2011, 21:40:48 »

"Yasi" is a Category 5 Tropical Cyclone and looks like it will be the most damaging for a long time. Of course there have been other Cat5s (e.g Tropical cyclone Mahina of 4 March 1899), but they are rare and terrible events.

Nowt to do with CO2, more jet streams and SSTs (surface sea temperatures), but the greenies will soon be along, of that you can be sure. ::)

In the meantime, let's pray that the residents get through this as best they can.  :y :y

Just heard this on the radio on the way home. They're even evacuating the hospitals :o :o

As if the poor people of Queensland haven't been through enough :( :(

Harsh maybe but I am watching that front sweeping across the US right now.  Not only could it strand the missus in DC but give it a few days it may reach us yet.....

In fact I know someone whose son is in a catermarin right in the middle of the path of this beast.  I think his giveashit-o-meter is pretty high right now  :(

Sorry mate, but that is the funniest thing I have read all day!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I do however sincerely hope this storm is nowhere near the magnitude the early reports claim it could be!

thinking of the human fragility , every storm is dangerous.. any falling tree, street lamp,  or flying object can kill you, apart from the other obvious problems it creates..

For a sailor a Cat 5 is enough to make you wonder if your life is all in order at home.  Getting through one of those at sea is not something I would relish in a thousand years

Glad to see some of the comments from late last night removed... Not what I expected to see on here :( :(

As for anyone caught in either storm... I wish them well and hope they emerge from the other side with no/minimal losses
