Projects and Purchases
« on: 23 May 2007, 15:22:20 »

Im up to no good again... :o :y

Nearly tied up a deal for another Vectra. Its a 120bhp Sri with timing belt failure.

Seriously stupid price and very local. Will work as a breaker or as a fixer.

So quick straw poll.....timing belt failure on 1.8....car was going so invariably further damage.

Replace engine ( £150) or try to repair / replace damage to top end? ( also good experience)

Oh and car purchase and delivery and replacement engine price ( sourced from breakers running) is half bottom book price.. :y

Pop a second hand head on it.....that way you get the RIGHT engine as its likely to be the later X18XE1 with drive by wire.....

Bottom end should be okay shouldnt it  :-/

my normal assumption is if its got oil in it then its not got a hole in the bottom end.... ;D Not scientific i know..

I looked at a Rover 75 a few months ago with no oil in it and a timing belt that failed at 50mph. Presume something (a piston?) had shot right out and left a massive hole..

Going to look at it tonight.. :y
