O2 pre pay contract, they want to end....

I have a pre pay contract with O2 for my phone, had it for many years... get 75 mins free calls to landline but pay for everything else. It costs about £100 a year but l only pay about £30 most years as I do not upgrade...I also hardly use the phone.  They now say that they are getting rid of this and want to charge me £10 per month with 100 mins to landlines and unlimited texts..... ::) texts, may be do 2 or 3 a month, I hate texting...... ::) ::) ::)

Can I change to pay as you go and keep the same number?

you should be able to do that as the number belongs to you,if you were to change to another network you can take your number with you as I did when I left"3" and went to orange

As said, you can change it to whatever you like and retain your number these days. Can just buy a PAYG card and a couple of phone calls will see your old number re-instated. Vote with your feet. :y

mate this might not be of any use at all but.............

vodafone do a ''friends and family'' package (which im on).

basically top up on PAYG £10 per month and theyll give you free calls to anyone of your choice thats on vodafone :)

so for the money i save on that i get to put towards my text and internet pack (which i prefer to use)

Think you will find that you can 'port' a number from PAYG to contract but cannot do it the other way round.

End of the day just use your mobile more, you've got the 'free' minutes so use the mobile instead of the landline.

I do, all my close family is on O2 and we all get free O2 to O2 calls so use the moblie instead of the landline - cheapest contract anyone is on with this is £10/ month 30 day rolling contract

To your previous provider who are obliged to supply you with a code the name of which escapes me. Then quote said code to your new provider who will switch the number. Mrs. KW has just done it. :y

Why change if the xurrent contract suits your needs and your pocket.

You say they want rid of it.  If you choose to keep it then do they have to honour it.

£30 a year now (most of the time) against a definite £120 a year for the future.   ::)

Whilst you have a right to demand to keep your number from your current provider, not all new providers seem to be willing to accept it on PAYG accounts. So you need to check this.


My year of free data with O2 is coming to an end, looks like I'll be back on my crappy Vodafone service soon :(

I would agree with that, most Networks have the right (in the small print) to change your tariff at given Notice, although they rarely do because of the Contract Value and high Customer Churn Rate.

I reckon its just grubby sale operator trying to upgrade you or your tariff as part of thier 'lets try and tie them up for longer' targets.

If you have kept your payments up to date once you get past your contract period then you just keep your tariff on a 30 Day contract.

What might be happening is your asking them to renew your contract for another term, and are asking them for some cash back instead of an upgrade. There thinking because your on a cheap old fashion tariff were not going to play ball with you, in which case your a bit stuffed.

I would keep the contract your on if your happy and wait 6 months, then try again.

I have been with them for about 20 years, a pay in advance contract that gives me 75 mins a month to land line, I use less than 10 in an average month and sometimes have a monthly call bill of between 17 pence and a couple of pounds, usually when ringing Miss Vamps telling her to come home.. ::) ::)

I might try ringing them and asking to be put on to payg or threaten to leave, main reason for staying is I can remember the number......
We have several unused 02 payg sim cards from new phones that we have bought...
