If you get one then you MUST make sure that your insurance covers you for loss of metered water as you are laible for this if there is a failure in the pipework after the meter.

We had a leak  coupld of years back and lost well over £1000 worth of water.

If you had a meter fitted the M3 usage would show on your bill.

Water board fit them but they will survey the site (your flat ) on request to give advice.

Genrally you have 1 years grace as to whether to keep a meter once fitted or have it removed if the bills dont reduce.

Any home with an existing meter it wont be removed.

Newer meters are neater than the pic you found.
