Yes, I was looking at the wrong part  :-X
To check it just measure its resistance, it should be fairly low.

Are they easy or cheap to find and I have no example as the fob for repair has it missing

Aghhhhhhh

Rebuilding the faulty fob and the inductor broke while being moved

Trouble is that's a bit high for an inductor without lots of turns. Also if it broke, well sometimes they are wound on a ferrite core, and if that breaks the inductance will all be to pot. OK maybe my thinking is a bit constrained, but you need to know what its doing in the circuit before substituting. If its filtering a power rail, most things will do, its only stopping high freq stuff. If however its part of a resonant circuit where the frequency does matter the the wrong value will screw things up.

Hmm, are you using hot air to get it off ?. I remember when you were talking about plastic welding, and I suggested you get a temp controlled hot air system. That is nearly the best tool for getting off SMD components, it heats both sides up at once so it will come off easily. Alternatively put a blob of solder on both sides and with a big iron try and get both sides molten so it can be removed.

The compnent size sounds like 0805 ( 0.08 ins long  * 0.05 ins across ). I'll see if I can find any chip inductors, but as I said if its a frequency determining cct you will have no chance without the correct component.

No just varnish covered copper (I think) over the usual SMD white plastic base.

Martin, spoke to one of the tecs at the electronic company i work for.He suggested a few ideas, first it has a number on the pcb and a name.(659856.21.02a siemens)You could ask siemens if they still make that pcb,or if they have schematics and a bill of materials for it.That way you will not only know how the circuit works, but also what components and there values are.The only thing is not all electronic companies make there own pcbs. For example my company make pcbs for LG,but siemens may tell you who manufactures the pcb :) :y HTH Moggy
