I find Gigabyte have gone downhill in the last 5-10yrs.  I now, personally, tend to stick to Intel mobos. Tend to be ultra stable, well supported, and easily brandable.
I agree, IMHO they lost it when they introduced the BX2000 with the so called "crash proof" BIOS.
I myself favour ASUS boards for their speed, reliability, and the fact they overclock very well (if that's what you are in to), although always with the Intel chipset.

the last 3 asus boards that friends bought, was a disaster.. they need expensive cooling systems to work properly.. and I dont count the one who refused to work with a tv card :(

Thanks. Intel board off Ebay it is.

honestly , asus, gigabyte , intel can be candidates..

but all brands have some models that you must stay away ;D

so before buying a model read some reviews and check  http://www.tomshardware.com/

or similiar sites..
ASUS are too inept to produce a reliable board. They go for benchmarks, not in life durability or supportability. Gigabyte seem to have gone through a bad patch for reliability, but also seem to stop supporting a board as soon as they stop making it, which is a bit naughty.

I buy Intel, which might 0.5% down on benchmarks, but invariably rock solid, and supported, including BIOS updates for new OS and CPUs etc, for a few years.  Retail, they come with 3yr warranty as well :).  Also, as they sell an awful lot to OEMs, they provide the OEM tools for branding, including 'certain BIOS additions' - dead handy if you are constantly rebuild your PCs

I think they, by default, overdrive the components, in order to get that extra 1% on the standard benchmark tests.

Thats often OK for people who know what they are doing, and choosing components to suit, but causes stabiility issues for people slapping cheap shite into them. Including backstreet system builders.

I do seem to see a lot of reliability issues with ASUS boards (and ASUS video cards), so can't help thinking they have quality issues at a hardware level, or need more work on firmwares.  So, personally, I stick away from them, and find them difficult to recommend.
