KH400 is as flat as a witches tit Guy.The 500 mach3 is the one to have (or 750 mach4) all the power comes in with a bang and the handling is atrocious - pretty exciting. Nicknamed "The widowmakers" and for good reason. ;)

I'm still considering taking my bike test

Do it Guy  :y

I learned for the challenge, a new skill. I have not looked back.

Did same with Snowboarding!

You don't need power to enjoy biking, I enjoy driving my 4pot Omega....I've had it for 6 years, I've had funds to change to a V6 if I wanted to, I've had several project cars but I always liked my little 2.2  :)

For me just being on the bike is fun in twisty lanes, the extra go is nice though. Even my lardy GS, will see off most things on 4 wheels.

Given your height, I feel you may struggle a bit with the GS, they are tall. One of the reasons I like it, as I'm not to scrunched up on the bike.

Perhaps something like F650 or F850 would suit you to begin with?

All I can say is go for it, nothing like a tent strapped to the back (or set of  clothes for B&B) and heading off to somewhere like Snowdonia / Wales   along lovely twisty roads on a sunny day!
Given my height? Don't you remember me? I'm not as tall as you but i'm a good 6 footer & 17+ stone which would  settle her down a tad.

If BMW are pitching the GS at 6'5 plus then it's a limited market! ;D

I had a KH250 (the S1 model) the day I turned 17, the day before I was on a Fizzy (FS1-E).
I didn't have to worry about the centre pot issue as I didn't have it long enough, it was less than an hour from picking it up to stoving it in to the back of a car (no wonder the government introduced the 125 law very shortly afterwards  ;D ).

I used to know someone with one and it kept dropping cylinders, one ride cut to one cylinder so I had to carry his passenger on my 100. The others were learners or had passengers. I had a CG125 crash into me! But I could still pull over 70.

I did have a go on the KH as well.

Apologies Guy, for some reason (going from first lakes meet) I thought you where 5ft8 or something  :-[ :-[

Sorry!  :-[

6ft is fine, but even I struggle a bit to get on it, couple of times i've put my foot down to find a slight pot hole and almost gone over!  :-[

You know you want to take the bike test  :y

Iirc the 250 was around 27bhp and the 400 around 35bhp.
......so, flat as a witches tit. ;)
Having said that I am living testimony to the fact that the KH 250 was easily fast enough to do yourself very serious damage - when its near flat out progress is interupted by the rear end of a Hillman Hunter, aided & abetted by a set of traffic lights. ::) :D ;D

Dunno about the tekky stuff but a good KH was a scream to ride. Rode a 400 owned a 250. The points & carbs could be tricky to keep right (maybe that's why yours felt flat) but they were as good if not better than any other 250 of thier day.

Centre pot used to take a while to kick in some mornings, usually with the throttle wide open on a roundabout!

Proper little screamers & i'm glad to old enough to remember them.

I love classic cars but hate Hillman Hunters. Possibly the most un involving drive ever...even the Holbays.

I owned 2 and rode several of them. I agree that they were the best 250 in the mid 70,s - but by todays standards......... ;)
If I wanted a two stroke 250 it would be an Aprillia RS 250 - faster than most 750,s from the 70,s.

I seem to recall there was a Kawasaki 350 two stroke triple in the early seventies too. I believe it was dropped when the 400 came out. :y
