computer help
« on: 21 August 2011, 10:09:23 »

Can anybody help
I will explain this as best i can sorry if it is a little long winded

I bought my wife a Dell netbook running windows 7
when we connect to the home wifi i can not get online
it usually connects with either limited axcess or it will connect with internet axcess until we open the browser or any internet program at wich point the internet drops out and says limited axcess again

This only happens at home if i go to the local cafe it will connect no problems
we are using a ethernet cable at present defeats the point i think

I was told that my router might not support windows 7 but everything else connects no problems even my brand new Dell touch screen (1 week old)

The other problem is i cannot get into the settings of the router as it is Spanish

please help in layman terms as i know nothing about these kind of faults and it is driving me mad :( :(

The router is compatible.  The router would never know what OS a client is running.

Go to a command prompt (Start > cmd), and type
ipconfig /all

Post up output.

The error you see comes up if you get an APIPA address (169.254.x.x) because you cannot get a DHCP address, or if the PC cannot contact a test server (DNS issues or gateway dropping the traffic).

this means you network configuration is wrong or incompatible at some point with the router..
