Anyone got any experience of Ryobi products? - thinking of their 2 stroke extended hedge cutter - the 26 model will do me - £169 for complete kit.

What I want to avoid is something that is a tempramental starter

Can't locate the model you have referenced to see if it's similar but I have one of their strimmers with an Expand-it hedge trimming attachment. As a hedge trimmer it's a bit unwieldy bit for the small amount of hedge I have it does the job.

As regards starting it's absolutely rock solid, though. Couple of presses of the priming bulb, cold start on, switch on and it starts on the first pull.

It has a habit of bogging down as you open the throttle from cold but let it idle for a few seconds after starting and it's as good as gold.

Great value for money ,Chinese origin but most are nowadays , great starter and good quality.
The hedge trimmers are strong and robust and the chainsaw will cut through a branch as thick as your arm.
Have a look at the sellers other items and you'll see his spares/parts back up is second to none.
Great communication and immediate answers from the seller too.

PPS , on the note of tempremental starting ,I've got seven  2 stroke engined garden machines from different manufacturers and have never had any problems starting any of them over the years

Thought that was normal for all little 2-strokes? Every Strimmer / Hedgecutter etc I've seen / used does this till they have been running for a couple of mins.  :-?

I tend to like Ryobi stuff, however I’m not so sure on the 2-stoke engine fitted to their strimmers. I bought a brand new engine a few years back (the intention was to power a small model with it). However I only started the engine maybe half a dozen times and its now ready for the scrap bin (the flywheel and crank shaft are ruined - its a very weak design fault imo) – The engine never even made it into the model!   

Maybe they have changed there design now? I hope...

Thanks Kevin Ian and Olympian - I went for the Ryobi as it was in local shop ( I do try and support them).

Not as good as starting it as you are Kevin - using 50:1 as recommended.

I am obviously not as strong as I used to be and whilst I know the safety issue is to use it from waist level I had hoped to get it level with my head to reach some high stuff. Too heavy therefore unsafe so just retrieved my platform from son's house and will give it another go tomorrow. Mrs wingeing about me stepping on plants etc.

Seems a good little machine though
