What's it worth, insurance question
« on: 17 August 2009, 00:34:51 »

Its a 1998 CDX estate 2.5 manual in Gold. It has full leather and is in very good condition. It has 148k on the clock but I have just fitted a warranted 51k replacement engine with new cambelt and water pump. It has a new cat, DIS, EGR and has just been serviced. I have history up until 81k and all the old mots. It also has a ff sunroof. My insurance has asked me for a value and I think it should be around £1000

I don't really think it matters what figure you give em, they would only ever pay out what they consider it's worth. £1000 sounds about what I would probably put down as a ballpark figure.
I've got my TD estate 2000 year plate insured value £2400, but we all know it won't fetch that.

As Mick said, they'll only pay the book value no matter what you tell them it's worth.

As a comparison for you though, I sold (a few weeks ago) a 2000 registered (V plate) 2.5 CDX Estate that had full service history, 2 owners from new, 104K on the clock and all the common parts (wishbones, shocks, brakes, rocker gaskets, etc, etc) already replaced for £1000 in a private sale (book price was £1500 for an excellent condition example).

Not 100% accurate, they tend to pay whatever book price is OR whatever value you insure it for, depending which is the lower value :y

Looking at my latest glasses guide, £1,000 is about right, but the numbers say bottom book £800 and i would imagine thats what they would pay. My Omega is an 04 plate and i would be lucky to get £1700, dont it P*SS you off. >:(
