l have a karge argon shield gas bottle. lts to large to keep moving and l am thinking of decanting the gas into a smaller bottle. Anyone got any advice on how to do this or where l can get a rig to connect the bottles.

I would try a fire extinguisher place mate.

First of all, be VERY CAREFUL when messing with compressed gas. Did you know that they fill them under water, because when filled in the atmosphere you'll only get a token fill which won't last very long.
Have you seen the destruction one of these compressed gas bottles are capable of. They act like a missile, i personally wouldn't

I would advise you not to do it For the sake of a few pounds saved, it's not worth your life or someone elses.

I've seen a gas bottle go, and believe me, it's f**king scary.

l do decant 300 bar compressed air at the moment for airgun shooting. From a 7ltr dive bottle to a .5ltr rifle tank. The kit uses a low volume slow bleed system which would just take to long to fill the 10 ltr argon bottle.
The argon is less than 300 bar but is on a much larger scale. l would only decant it into the smaller argon bottle which usually goes back to the main supplier for exchange when empty so will always be in test

Compressed air is relatively easy to transfer because there are no real procedures as such to observe, but I suspect there are one or two procedures you'd have to carry out prior to the transfer where gases such as argon are concerned.

I regularly transfer N²O from my main (11lb) bottle to a 1lb bottle when I feel like having a mad half hour on the bike, but even then I have to observe certain pre-fill procedures (like ensuring the main bottle is warm, the recipient bottle is cold, and keeping an eye on the weight while filling).

A friend of mine (same guy who came over from France who helped me with the MIG) is a qualified diver & welder, I can quite easily give him a call tonight and get the full SP on the safe way to carry out the procedure if you like?
