Has anyone had trouble changing the oil filter on the 3.2. Today I am trying to change mine and got the housing loosened but the housing will neither come off or go back on???
It has unscrewed and slackened from the bottom but on looking closely at it it might be meant to slacken from the top cover??
Any ideas

It's just the top cover that's supposed to unscrew. It looks like some ham fisted garage ape has swung off his spanner/socket drive when it was last fitted. If you look at the filter housing it should only be tightened to 16 Nm - which is only a little more than hand tight, swinging off it won't make it seal any better as it's sealed via a large 'O' ring around the edge of the filter housing. You need to try to use something to hold the base while you unscrew the filter housing from it. The base is bolted up seperatly with a large nut or cap head depending on age of car.

Its the lid that should come off, try holding the main housing and release the lid. Once the lid is off and the filter removed, you will see a bolt in the base of the housing wich secures it to the block.

Your biggest issue will be related to how tight the last monkey did the lid up to!

main body should stay put, only the end cap comes off. By the sound of it you need to find a way of holding the main body still while turning the cap. Its a normal thread. Once the cap is off there is a nut inside main body that will need re tightening.

Clearly some Gorilla has done the cap up to tight. The correct nm is cast on the cap i beleive.

First time I changed the oil filter in mine we had a chain wrench holding the filter body whilst undoing the cap with a socket & tommy bar with a three foot scaff pole on the end.
Scary as you can damage the housing but it worked.

New one is £20 from vx,and as you probably guessed i found out the hard way splitting mine in half.
