I think a well serviced engine at a very steady 70,on a virtually empty motorway MIGHT do it tbh. :-/

62mph seems to be the optimum speed - not that you'll ever drive at that...

I had 38 mpg ave (trip comp) on a 120 mile run in my 3.0 mv6.
Was sticking to 70 all the way so it is possible(if the trip comp is accurate) best around town so far is 15 mpg.

The Omega is never going to feel as tight as a Vectra. (awaits the flaming) the Omega and the Vectra are aimed at a different target audience.

Although the Vectra is sportyier, it suffers from being front wheel drive. All the weight and power from a v6 is too much for the front wheels of a vectra to take, this is obviously multiplied when cornering. The Omega is RWD and believe me it makes all the difference.

I've owned 2 Vectra's (still got one) now (2.5 sri & 2.6 gsi) however I still think about the 40-50 miles I did in a v6 manual omega. I really enjoyed it. I could only imagine what fun you could have in a mildly tuned 3.2 with nice sports suspension.

This is one of the main reason I come back to this forum, because deep down I suspect I will be owning another Omega soon ;)

This is only my opinion and some will disagree with me.

So back to the original point, (sorry for the diversion) I would say, drive some different Omega's before you completely dismiss them.

Can you identify what you don't like? Even how it compares to a different car.

i fully agree with you, i have only driven cav's and vectras(2 vec's, both reasonably highly modified esp engine wise) and to put the power down is a nightmare especially in the wet or on a tight corner, i went to omega because (a)its rear wheel drive (b)i can fit 3 kids car seats across the back seat

i understand what you are saying about the power, as for grip that all depends on how its set up, the vectra i have just sold stuck the road like $hit to a baby's blanket lol, as for kids ive only got 2 and they dont need booster seats/car seats anymore, im even considering a mk4 astra 2.2 sri aswell

:y :yi agree with u bullet my 98 3.0 elite manual s best has been 39.8 on a run !
With all due respect, 'dangle berries'!

Even Vx themselves say the best you can get is 34mpg, and you ain't gonna see that in the real world unless you can simulate the test conditions.

Longest run my car has had is from Bristol to York via Manchester when I bought it (Drive home).

I had cruise set at 70 most of the time, but did have the odd little play here and there. Average from the MID was 34mpg :)

Must admit, since then I think I've developed a lead foot and rarely see it above 30mpg ish.  :-[
