were is the water coming from
« on: 24 October 2009, 14:43:20 »

we have had this 2.2dti for almost two months now and every two days or so we have to top up the headertank. it has had a new oil cooler and it had the head gasket done when they skimmed the head? the water is not going into the engine as i have done an oil change and checked the oil every time i top up the water. I have checked the two heater pipes o/s/r in the engine bay but it looks like its coming from the back of the engine as i have seen water on the road under the car when the engine is warm but i can not see were from :-? :-/

Check the HBV, hope the HG was not replaced due to this water leak?

yeah, like he said, heater by pass valve. Black plastic starship enterprise looking thing, will be in the heater pipe system, not sure exactly where on your engine, at the back somewhere.

Can't see capt kirk anywere but can see a pipe coming out from under the back of the oil cooler which goes up around the back of the cylinder head and across the bell housing looks like that has a water track down the near side. i have not been under to have a good look yet as its a bit wet down here today. :-/

Had a good look under the car today and it looks like the water is coming from the back of the engine were the hose from the oil cooler meets the block just under the head. has anyone got a good picture of the rear of the engine as can't get in there to see the fixing feels like two bolts but not happy yet :(

Had a good look yesterday and put the moblie up behind the engine to get a picture. It is two bolts that hold the housing to the block and inside is an o ring which i now have a new one for so will try and fit it this week. i hope this stops the water leak >:( :(

Put the new O seal in yesterday. Going to give it time but as yet the flow has stoped. Had to put a new tension pulley on at the same time as that was starting to go. The mig is almost back up to top spec with just the rear sensors and shocks to do. have now got the shocks just have to fit them. Happy days. ;D ;D
