Corsa engine management light on
« on: 22 December 2009, 19:47:48 »

just had a look at a friends '53 Corsa that has put on the engine management light. The codes were 130, 560, 130 and 170, which is O2 sensor, system volts, and exhaust rich/lean. Strange thing is it gave the system volts as 9.7V ?. I checked the battery and its up at 14.3V ?. Any ideas ?.

Check both battery terminals for heating, if at all warm check for corrosion... you have measured the battery .. if the terminals/connections are corroded the energy wil be wasted as heat and the voltage will drop markedly.

If they all look good take a jump lead from the earth (0V) terminal directly to  the engine, re-check .. if the votage is now normal you have an earth lead (0V) problem.

Thanks for that, the terminals "looked" ok, but I didn't check further. I'll get them to check it tomorrow. Strange, supposedly the car is starting OK. Where does the ECU get its earth from ?.

No idea  ::) ::) ::)

But if the voltage at the ECU and/or the sensors are nearly 5 volts out my guess is they ain't gonna work right !!!

So my priority would be the voltage side...as it might well cause all other problems to dissapear once sorted  :)

Yes, this could be the cause of all the codes cars are too complicated these days !.

Thanks again,
