You need to run it until it cuts back to petrol (and wont run on LPG for longer than a few seconds) before filling so you know it's empty :y :y

Least mine works  :P
As does my Rover, and the Golden Nugget, both exceeding the limits of your 2.2 by a margin ;)  (Well, the Rover to about 95mph, then it needs winding up. Apparently ::))
