How easy would it be to put a sump plug or similar in there .... surely cant be that difficult to weld or put some kind of plug in there ??

I quite fancy changing my atf but this is whats putting me off  :-/
Not really, as you still need to remove both sumps - front to check state of thrust washer, and rear to clean/replace filter and magnet

I just mean to get the oil out more easier without getting covered in it then removing the sumps once its drained  :y :y

I understand what your saying and if your going to keep the car for another 70-80,000 miles maybe worth it, but you will still need to remove the sump to fit your new filter in :y

My drive was still ATF-less untill the point of filling. The fill tube from the funnel in the engine bay came out of the side of the gearbox & I didn't notice. A small amount of ATF does spread a long way on your drive.  :-?  :-?  :-?

If you leave a couple of bolts in at the end of the sump then gently loosen them the oil will come out more controlled... he says ;D what Zok is refering too is I was changing his gearbox with his son Tony, oikl was pouring out when I asked my Nephew to pass me a screwdriver or spanner, so he passes it to me so I have to lean forward to get it........ yes oil all over my bloody head ;D ;D ;D you can imagine what those three were doing can't ya ;D ;D ;D ;D
You do it on purpose to keep us amused, go on admit it.

Maybe so.. but not on that occassion ;D
Speaking of oil spillage, next time you see Tony ask him about yesterday's comedy oil change mishap.
I'm thinking of changing his name to BP. ;D ;D
