Bushes (sigh)
« on: 27 July 2010, 08:39:05 »

Heavy duty items pressed by the master at newent before last, fitted by me and torqued corectly wheels loaded.

Failed .......i think. New sc3's on the front and the car still pulling esp under heavy braking. Been under to inspect and its hard to see tears in the front bush due to a fatter bush and plastic insert but it doesn't look right in there, rear bush has a tiny tear on the top outside edge on drivers side, seen worse though tbh.

I feel for you Chris. Does make my £50 set from ebay seem like a worthwhile purchase now though as they lasted 2 years ::) y:

Well, brings me to my next question. What to replace them with?
For me it's lemforder minimum, as discussed so many times before I simply dont trust anything cheeper, any no name brand may well work from a given supplier one week, and not the next if they  change product at will....who can tell what your getting without a makers name or some sort of I.D. on them?

or fit polly although they don't do the rear bush afaik? And i still haven't got my head round how they fit so easily in the wishbone without twisting in the wishbone itself?

Or buy some cheap wishbones and fit better bushes. My wb's are very rusty. I have m5 bushes in the garage but they have an off set centre hole which may affect the caster angle I guess?still tempted to try them tho.  :-/

I replaced my wishbones a couple of months back and kept the original wishbones. If you want to take a look at them to see if they are worth pushing bushes into you are welcome. You could have them for say 25?

They were these ones, or should I say from this seller.

Obviously, as you say, there's nothing to say they haven't changed supplier but the last set did 2 years :y

might be worth getting a cheap set & replacing the front bush, i did this on SWMBO's Omega over 2 years ago & they are still good. The smaller bush is not available in poly & i was not advised to uprade this as it may cause to much vibration, but thinking of going down the slightly softer poly bush route & making up a pair if i ever get the time
