just replaced the head gaskit on a astra

rebuilt it
runs ok on petrol
now ......... we have gas forceing its way into the water expantion bottle

nothing on the gas side has been touched

ideas please

SGI or Mixer system?

Engine coolant is used in the evaporator, it comes in under pressure then is released in pressure (coolant does its job)

No its either then injected into each pot, or its taken in by the air-intake.

So for it to be forcing its way into the water, something has been wrongly connected on the evaporator / HBV :-/

the only place i can think of that the water touches the gas side is the evaporator :-/

thing is, nothing was touched on that side
it also breaked the radiator :-/

me thinking the evaporator if breaked and leting gas into the water

anybody ??

Remove the evaporator from the coolant loop and see if it stops.

Could be a goosed evaporator

Certainly sounds like a knackered Evaporator. You can normally get "Rebuild" kits with all the rubber you need to strip it and re build it

As Mark said, disconnect both coolant hoses and link them up to confirm it
