now i dont know this for sure so stand to be correctted,
but the ecu has maps designed to run with certain criteria info from its sensors and selects the one nearest to the parameters to run best,
so my thinking is if the engine is designed to run at 90 you wont get full performance or economy till the ecu sees the correct figures? however agree with you about high temos on the engine,
ergo my advice would be to research thermostats and find one with the same fitting and size but of lower operating temp fit it and try it!!
on the straight sixes this was an easy twek cos the themostat for hot countries was easily available by ordering it from Andyc,
you could try asking him whats available in say dubai for thermostat range? :y
