I put petrol in when the needle is just about to hit the red zone.  Wherever I am at the time gets my business.

I do however stick a tanks worth of 'super' or 'V-Power' or whatever name stuff in every now and again.  I dont know why, because I receive no positive gain in performance or economy.

I've seen many a review which tests different fuels in different engines.  Only the likes of Impreza's and the performance Honda VTEC jobbies show ANY measurable performance/economy gains.  The likes of our old hat, rough engineered V6, awesome sounding engines dont care what you put through them  ;D

I use Shell V-Power 93 octane in all my cars, except our little 2.5 I4 Cutlass Ciera... that gets 89 octane. V-Power seems to work the best, especially when I had my supercharged Pontiac Bonneville, plus it only has 10% ethanol or less.
LOL, American petrol is pretty poor ;D

The minimum we can by in the UK (and across most of western europe) is 95 Octane

American octane ratings are different to ours though. They use Pump Octane Number where we use Research Octane Number.

89 US octane = 93 UK octane
93 US octane = 97 UK octane

.. but there is rubbish fuel available out in the sticks. Ask my mate who tried to drive from Houston to San Francisco in a cossie turbo running <mumble>BAR of boost. I think he made it to Vegas before his cylinder head was declared BER, and most of that was on the back of a recovery truck.

A friend of mine who runs a fleet of Camaro's categorically states (and substantiated by RR figures) that the vehicles perform much better in the UK on RON than in the States.  Dont know if there are any other contributing factors, other than air temperature I guess?
