New Car
« on: 15 September 2010, 19:05:13 »

Have just bought the Mrs a Ford Street KA, not my choice but what she wanted :-[

Is there anything i need to know about this engine in particular, is it timing belt or chain?

Wishbone bushes seem to be a common problem but i'll polybush them anyway.

Besides the engine is there anything else i need to know thought i'd throw it out to the knowledgable ones on here as the KA forum looks shite ;)

Sounds like the 8 valve "Duratec" branded engine which is the engine previously known as the Zetec ROCAM, and has not a lot in common with the 16v and 24v Duratec branded engines, other than the manufacturer.

It was, IIRC, a development of the Kent / Crossflow / Valencia / HCS / Endura-E engine whereby a new cylinder head with single overhead cam and 8 valves was grafted onto the iron block originally of 1950's vintage.

It is chain driven and appears to be reasonably tough if not a particularly refined engine.

So, no cam belt to worry about, at any rate.
