v6 vectra questions

a mate has a v6 veccie, and apparently something connected to his EGR needs replacing...  and is allegedly , according to garage, pretty much an engine out job...


surely that's mad innit??       any comments  gratefully received....   


he's up in North Wales, (Colwyn Bay) so i can't just go an look.

Anything more specific than that? We do vague very well here but it tends to hinder a diagnosis somewhat.

You won't need the engine out of a VecBV6 for the EGR but like I said depends what really needs doing.

Just a stab in the dark but is it a 2.6?
Did the codes come back for PO430 and PO420?
Quite common on these engines, some say super unleaded helps, others just ignore it, it shouldn't effect performance...

i think he means the  veccy equivalent of the (vacuum?) pipe running down from underneath the EGR valve back in to the block?

i'm really going to have to get clarification....  it might be....  however, he's less car savvy than the average eskimo,   knows his stuff about bikes, but can;t seem to get his head around cars...      and he's 240 miles away....   which aint helping.... 

we used to live 1/2 a mile away and they're our best mates...  as it were....  so i'm keen to help, but a bit far away to translate in to accurate identifying.... sorry, useless i know...
