Guess we invented the V8 MGB - we fitted a Rover 3.5 V8 lump & gearbox into an MGB roadster in 1970 - went like stink.  Then a couple of years later BL started fitting the V8s into MGB GTs - don't think they ever factory fitted V8s into roadsters though.

The MGC was an absolute rsol of a motor - great heavy 3 litre staight 6 lorry engine fitted and with all that weight at the front tended to go straight on at corners.  Believe same lump fitted to Austin Healey 3000s.

And the Austin Westminster and Wolsley 6/110,used by the plod in there day :y

I bought an MGB GT new in !970 :o Blue with wire wheels and chrome bumpers. Went up and down from London to Scotland many a time. I kept it for 16 years having restored it once.To think that I drove around London and up the M1,M6,M74 and A9 and back 5-6 times a year would scare me to death nowadays :D I sold it for more than I bought it for. I had to sell it as there was a Range Rover, VW Scirocco, Rover SD1 on my drive/road and the neighbours were complaining because we lived in a cul-de-sac. Should have sold the SD1 :-\ CPH535H where are you now? That's a point, can you find out if and old car is still running by using the internet? Anyone?

http://www.freecarcheck.org gives you an idea as it says when the tax last ran out (or the online tax disc checker); looks like the tax expired in 1987..

Three things put me off an old M.G

1. Girlie image.
2. It shares an engine with a Morrris Marina 1.8 TC.
3. It handles like a dog on lino.

It was the chrome bumper model though..... :y :y

Nowt wrong with that Opti!!  ;)  I had a Morris Marina 1.8TC Coupe in that lovely BL Mustard with black go-faster stripes!!!  :y  At 18 it was my most powerful car yet and rear wheel drive!!! WOOHOO!!!!  :y :y :y

The boys at Top Gear know how to deal with a  Marina, Tigger ;D ;D ;D.........However, the coupe was quite attractive (I think) :y :y

The Marina was a great handling car though......far better than an Alfasud of the same period, I hear.... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;)

Although I loved my Marina, Alfasud ownership was my dream but alas could never quite afford one....  :( :( :(  and by the time I could they'd all disintegrated into dust...  ::) Thinking about it I can't remember the last time I saw an Alfasud....  ???

My old Dad owned two Alfasuds. A 1976 (P) 1.2 ti........and a 1978 (T).....1.5ti.

Build quality was poor, but they really were a fantastic driver's car. Dynamically brilliant. :y :y......and the 1.5ti was pretty quick with plenty of torque. :y :y

So did mine, probably about the same time! Just before I was born.. the paint peeled off the rear wing of one the first time it was washed and the other one leaked water through the windscreen.. ;D

I remember changing the front brake pads ( inboard discs)......There were classy allen bolts that retracted the pistons so that the new pads could be fitted. No need to remove the wheels. :y

Here's a nice one! The only Alfasud on ebay!!  :y

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFASUD-SPRINT-/110910665521?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D536133110487169092%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1017%26rk%3D1%26

Nice find, Tigger. Made in 1989 it must be one of the last "suds" made. £2500 seems pretty reasonable for the sprint version with the 1.7 litre lump. :y :y
