Golf Bluemotion Diesel - Fuel Consumption
« on: 24 November 2010, 21:07:46 »

Got one of these as a company car about four weeks ago and was intrigued to see good the fuel consumption could be as I was getting 53-56 commuting through traffic to Kent each day. Filled it up on Sunday and after two trips this week from Hertfordshire to Cirencester (M25/M4) 60-70 all the way and one trip to Hampton I've covered 560 miles and still have 230 miles range in the tank (average consumption 65mpg). I know it's only a one off but impressive none the less and a bit of a change from the Mig.

Nearly 800 miles from one tank, not bad! I think that nearer 3 tanks for an Omega  :-? :y

Yep but I wouldn't change the Mig for the world. As a work-horse the Golf is great and a great build to boot. I'd never driven one before but they really are well made. They drive and feel like a much bigger car. The best I've had from the Mig is about 25mpg but I rarely drive it any distance. Tank range for me is about 360.

Wonder what the best anyone's had from a single tank of a turbo weasel Omega?

Im guessing not 65mpg(!), but interesting to know.

I've had 50.1 out of mine on a very steady run to Lincoln. I had quite a strong wind behind me 90% of the way though.

Did anyone watch this week's top gear?

Switzerland>blackpool on one tank of diesel.

One of the car's tested was the bluemotion (I think).
Clarkson was using a jag 3.0 (?) twin turbo diesel and tried to get it to run out near london (so he could go home instead of blackpool).
Hammered it all the way across europe at 80+mph with the aircon on then made it all the way to blackpool with (according to his techies) 130 miles of diesel left - so approximately 900 miles!

I'm gonna be looking for one of those when the mig bites the dust (in about 10 years )

Had the MID Range+Odo read over 800 in my old tractor.  It was, of course, talking rubbish ;D

that's pretty impressive. I wish the elite did that, especially as I only like leisurely cruising on m-ways
