In All my 20 years driving i have never....
« on: 11 January 2011, 16:40:51 »

Had a puncher until today at lunch time. Had to come into the office today in Burton upon Trent and just headed out for lunch .On the way back the back on the car felt as if it was going over small speed bumps. :-? :-?. Pulled over and had a look around the car.

The passager side rear was flat, there was a garage 20 yards up the road called in for them to fix the puncher only to find out that there was a 8 " rip along the inside wall of the tyre.... >:( >:( >:(. Had to get a new back tyre in the end so pockets are now £80 lighter... :'( :'(.

On the good side  it did not go at 80 on the M1 on the way home. The old one was a Bridgestone Re050a :'( :'(. With a good 6mm left on it.

This was the result of backing off with a puncture. Deflation was instant. Worst part was when I went to change the wheel the wire reinforcement strands stuck in my fingers. :'(
I was on a dual carriageway so luckily I had two lanes to play with. :y

What's the inner wall of the tyre on the other side like?

I've heard and read about the damage some speed bumps can do to the inner areas of tyres, probably the bumps that look like a truncated pyramid.

We've got lots like that round here, and I usually try to negotiate them with a wheel either side. Perhaps I should put one wheel over the top of the bump and one down on the road...  :-/

I've just realised they are called 'speed cushions'. a misnomer if ever there was one!

Could have been alot worse though Steve, you could have had little Steve in the back & tanking it down the motorway when it let go, then who knows what could've happened :(
You're around to tell us the story & that counts :y :y
