Engine Replacement

Anybody had any experience of changing the engine on a ford mondeo (diesel), Head gasket seem to be fubard on mine and just wondering if its worth stripping it down and replacing it and the associated flushing and skimming of head or just buying a secondhand engine and having it fit :question

Opinions either way.
