Value of maintenance
« on: 30 August 2011, 11:42:02 »

Did a long journey yesterday and was driven mad by squealing from front tyres under braking at low speeds. It has been doing this a for a few days but I just put it down to the heat of the tarmac.

Wrong. Got underneath today and the steering idler bottom nut was loose and you could jiggle the idler around. Have torqued it up. Hope that is all it was. Track rod ends and other joints seem fine.

I don't think even if the nut had dropped off it would have come adrift but there again there is a lot of force with power steering. :o :o
