I think i need.....
« on: 21 August 2007, 23:01:03 »

Mr Mark DTM Calib.....or other engine experts to listen to my 2.2

It seems to be a lot noiser on idle than it used to be.....i know the exhuast manifold is leaking and it ticks like a guden when cold.....but used to be quiet after a min or two of starting.....could this be causing it? Its also got a holed exhaust pipe....which makes it sound a bit nosier rear end.....but engine noise seems louder to me  :-/

Maybe just my imagination  :-/ Coz since the no smoking laws came in......ive been getting out the omega....like a good boy  :y to have a ciggie....usually leave the engine running and have a wander around it while having a smoke.....so maybe noises i havent heard before  :-/

So if engine experts on the nearly in wales meet could have a listen would be much appreciated  :y

it could be that the exhaust manifold is cracked and getting worse with the thermal cycling ... or that the gasket between it and the cylinder head is shot (hopefully the latter rather than the former).

Either way, what you're getting is normal ... a ticking that over time becomes louder and more persistent until it gets soooo bad you HAVE to do something about it ...

As many will know, my work  (at the ISP) schedule is tight - especially with night shifts - however, I only have one, and at most two Omega jobs to look at, until this 2.2 Miggy is de-headed ;D

The head, and exhaust manifold will be carefully inspected, and fitted with new genuine gaskets and new studs, torqued to specification. Any snapped studs will be dealt with by a machine shop, prior to assembly.

I am also trying my hardest to get Dave to let me fit new stem seals and re-lap the valves in also  >:(  ;D

I think your right......its just that darn exhaust manifold.....it has got a hairline mark on the top of it.....so perhaps experts at the meet could say wether its a casting mark or a crack  :-/ as well as the gasket blowing.

Look on the bright side, a lot of Omega owners haven't found this forum yet :)
