Parcel shelf???
« on: 10 September 2006, 21:16:13 »

Is there a parcel shelf with speaker grilles (aside from the big long one at the back)? Reason i ask is, im gonna fit some 6x9s onto the back shelf and need the holes for them rather then cuttin up my own shelf.

Has anyone already done this if so do you have any pics?

many thaks

i would not advise this for 2 reasons:

1) The rear parcel shelf is metal underneath, and DO NOT cut into this. Its part of of the main chassis and contains a LOT of strength in the car. Cutting into it would weaken the car.

2) 6X9's upset the sound stage, and is not the way to improve sound.

If you want better ICE, either:

Amp the current speakers, as the Omega speakers are excellent its the weak headunit which lets them down.

Personally i put in an Alpine headunit, with a Vibe Active Sub, really packs a punch.... and sounds brilliant now.

Thanks for the warning Tunnie, i thought i had seen one on ebay but werent too sure, gutted now cos i already have the 6x9s from a previous car waiting to go in. Today i fitted a Pioneer Head unit so it gave me the bug to fit it all again.

you should notice a change with the new headunit, if you want more bass, which is what i wanted.

I highly, highly recommend the Vibe CR10 Active:

Its fairly small at 10" sub, but with its built in AMP it really kicks a punch.

If i play that new Nelly tune Maneater, the bass feels like someone is beind my seat, punching it!!

Really really is much much more powerful than you think, I can give you a demo if your comming to the Santa Pod meet

Doesnt the full Bose set up have 6x9s in the rear shelf??

IIRC there are some little 'knock out' panels in the metal part of the rear shelf where the speakers go.

And why stick with one 10" sub??

Ive got 2 10s driven by a bridged kicker amp, makes the interior mirror 'bounce' when its cranked up  :) :)

6x9 will fit into the parcel shelf without cutting metal just a pain to cut em out accurately. the stock speakers in low speck omega pre facelift are not up to much, was running an 18 inch sub in boot but the stereo sounded much better out side the car than in it so no point, to improve the sound you need to work from the front back, replace the front door speakers with an amp and high quality high performance speakers then work your way back if you need to, rear speakers just fill out the sound but its the fronts you hear most.
